NCAS Report Received at Lightning Speed!

Hello international nurses!

I am posting as I received my NCAS report!!

How long did it take?

To get your results, you have to first complete all three components of the NCAS assessment - the Computer Based Assessment, Simulation Based Assessment and Oral Assessment.

My experience of the assessments are here:

http://internationalnurseincanada.com/ncas-cba-computer-based-assessment/

http://internationalnurseincanada.com/ncas-sla-oa-simulation-lab-and-oral-assessment/

Following completion of all parts, the NCAS website says your results will be available within 60 days, so I had prepared myself for a long wait.

BUT to my surprise, my report came back within 2 weeks!! You can imagine my shock/surprise!

I was in luck though, as my NCAS assessments were some of the first since COVID. With no backlog, and less people taking the actual assessment itself it seems that right now they are able to get the reports out much faster.

The NCAS Report Breakdown

NCAS has a sample report on their website which can be found here: https://www.ncasbc.ca/Assessments/Documents/Sample%20RN%20Report_Final.pdf

As you can see, there are 16 categories they assess you on.

The scale of rating is that you're either 'consistent', 'emergent' or 'undemonstrated' in each category. The sample noted above has the information what each outcome.

An important thing to note: Within each category, each box has a little bar. In the bar, there is a dotted blue line which you how you performed
within the the consistent', 'emergent' or 'undemonstrated' scale. So, for example, if the line is low in the emergent, you were very close to that particular category being undemonstrated. This is important to know as the regulatory body will look into the categories and see which ones you didn't do so well in.

The feedback for each category is generic for each category, dependent on if you're either 'consistent', 'emergent' or 'undemonstrated'.

YAY! I got my results - what happens next?

I wanted to share with you that although it felt really relieved receiving my performance report, it then sent me on a spiral as I was speculating what my results could mean. You best believe I was thinking of all of the possible outcomes, which after a while gets very tiring to think about.

Following the results, you wait for BCCNM to make their decision. BCCNM will look at the full picture - your NNAS results, NCAS results, employment etc. Then they make a decision on if you have to take any transitional education to get your license.

All in all, it's been very nerve wracking, for me at least. Especially given the pull of emotions when trying to figure out what could this report mean for my future. I wanted to be happy, but I didn't want to get my hopes up at the same time.

Decisions Decisions...

So, BCCNM's all important decision. I will post soon so you know what their outcome was for me. I've just been very busy working on getting this license so I will update you soon.

Thanks for listening :)

Until next time!
